EMQ Networks, a leading online media network specifically targeted for African American college life, unveiled its new BlackGreekTV Mobile App at the 17th Annual ESSENCE Music Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana, on July 1, 2011.
Specifically designed for iOS and Android devices, the BlackGreekTV Mobile App is devoted to the lifestyle and college experiences of the Black Greek Lettered Organizations included in the Divine Nine -- elite African American fraternities and sororities which include: the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority and Zeta Phi Beta Soririty.
The basic features of the mobile app include news updates, step shows, stroll off videos, and alerts from each member of the Divine Nine. According to EMQ Networks, the BlackGreekTV Mobile App was conceptualized in order to answer the following question, “Are Black Greek Lettered Organizations still relevant today?”
More than just being a source of entertainment for students, the main goal of EMQ for releasing the application is to provide a platform for African American college students to showcase a well-rounded Black Greek lifestyle and experience.
Some of the activities featured at the official launch of the BlackGreekTV Mobile App included games, trivia, and the 2nd Annual BlackGreek Stroll off Contest.
